Dr Dawson has been a member of the Australian Psychological Society APS) for over 40 years, and a member of the specialist Clinical College of of this Society since 1981.
He is a graduate of the Australian National University and the University of Melbourne.
He has a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology and a Ph.D. Degree in researching the comparative effectiveness of cognitive and behaviour therapies.
Dr Dawson has lectured in the psychology programs of three Australian Universities at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
He has held research and clinical positions at hospitals in Victoria and the Northern Territory and held the position of Senior Psychologist in charge of the Psychology Department of the Royal Darwin Hospital.
For ten years while in private practice in Melbourne he was the Director of the Australian Institute for Rational Emotive Therapy.
In this position he developed and ran training programs teaching Health and Allied Health Professionals in the therapeutic skills of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
He now lives on the Sunshine Coast, and is a keen road and trail cyclist.
